When All Else Fails . . . Listen Inward

Coaching with the Whole Body in Mind

body-oriented Coaching

During this process, the client is assisted to connect Conceptual Awareness (left brain, linear, logical, language based) with Embodied Awareness (right brain, imaginative, body sensed, present moment).

Learning to listen to the body is essentially tapping into your own intuition. Your coach guides you through processes that reveal your subconscious as communicated through your body’s experience.

What is Body-Oriented Coaching?

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

Albert Einstein

Our thinking minds reveal our conscious thoughts, but the body and subconscious carry more information than we tend to be able to consistently or accurately recognize.  Sometimes we can find clues in the form of body sensations, movements, posture changes, felt sense, imagination, and so on.  Integrating the whole of our organism’s knowledge when we consider topics of concern will help us come to conclusions most aligned with our own intact selves.  Only you can possibly know what is best for you.

With that in mind, the basic structure of our meeting is as follows:

·      Arrive together in our safe space, taking a moment to settle into the here and now.

·      Converse to identify the question/dilemma/phenomenon weighing on you, clarifying what might be the desired end result.

·      Delve into further discussion and/or body oriented processes to explore any signals your body may have for you (in Somatic Speak, this is “what wants to emerge”).  Listening to your body does require a calm, centered state of mind, and we will employ techniques to help you to access this state and relax into the experience.

·      Summarize progress, integrate insights and identify steps and resources to apply in your life.

“Imagination is more important than knowledge.”

Albert Einstein

Our body gives clues to our subconscious – those impressions, memories, knowings may be nonverbal but are most assuredly present.  Through learning to listen to these clues, we learn to trust that the felt sense of knowing is our deepest most personal truth.

about Cindy

Coach Cindy (aka Dr. P) has been an active general and bariatric surgeon for more than two decades.  Her favorite reward from this work has been witnessing patients who really “got it”  and were empowered to make amazing positive changes in their lives.

Although she loves interacting with her patients and performing robotic surgeries, in recent years she found herself in deep “burnout.”

Within her professional realm, she felt profoundly alone as well as mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausted at the end of every single day.  She found it more and more difficult to suppress the frustration and ignore the vague pervasive sense of dissatisfaction.

This years’ long journey of clawing her way out of burnout eventually led, inexplicably and serendipitously, to The Somatic School.  She felt the certainty in her body that this was a path to her own delight - a non-medical but completely scientific method to assist people in accessing their own internal light.  “This is my joy.  This is my offering.”

The name “When All Else Fails…(listen to the patient)” harkens back to her medical school days.  It was a tongue-in-cheek sarcastic comment about the over-reliance of the medical profession on tests and imaging.  It was intended to draw attention back to the place where the real answers lie . . . to the patient.  Many of us are similarly guilty of looking everywhere outside of ourselves for wisdom, guidance, and answers.  But the real truth lies within.  So . . . “When all else fails, … listen Inward.”
